The incident took place in Farmington around 12:40 a.m., on Wednesday, Aug. 31.
According to state police, Mindy Lee Rivera, age 37, of New Britain was arrested after troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Route 9 South where I-84 East and West merge.
Upon arrival, troopers found two vehicles in the left lane adjacent to the construction pattern just north of the Route 9 turnaround and Rivera standing in between the left and right lanes on Route 9 South, state police said.
Rivera was identified as the operator of an involved vehicle and escorted to a safer location. Investigating troopers were able to establish that Rivera's Nissan, had been traveling northbound in the southbound lanes and sideswiped a Hyundai, state police said.
No injuries were reported and both vehicles were towed from the scene.
State police said Rivera was found to be at fault for the collision and standardized field sobriety tests were administered, which were not performed to standard.
Rivera was charged with:
- DUI/drugs or alcohol in a construction zone
- Driving the wrong way on a highway in a construction zone
- Failure to comply With state traffic control sign
- Reckless endangerment
- Reckless use of highway by a pedestrian
She was released on a $2,000 cash-surety bond.
